Premarket Calls and Puts, October 16, 2026

Provisional plan on last night’s closing chains. The 10:00 AM run confirms on live quotes.

Today’s Catalysts

TRV beat big this morning, ==$9.18== actual vs ==$7.35== estimate. TFC missed this morning, ==$1.16== actual vs ==$1.20== estimate. SCHW beat yesterday morning, ==$1.69== vs ==$1.66== estimate. AA beat big yesterday afternoon, ==$1.82== vs ==$1.52== estimate. TSM beat yesterday morning, ==$4.60== vs ==$4.45== estimate. APA printed a fresh 52 week high two sessions ago as energy led today’s tape, up ==1.35%==. Sector read today: Energy, Financials, and Consumer Staples lead. Technology is the lone sector in the red, down ==1.05%==.

Call Candidates

None cleared every gate.

TRV passed trend, price above a rising 50 day, RSI 67.6, supertrend up. The Nov 20 $390 call failed liquidity and the breakeven gate. Open interest only 112, volume 7, spread 18.7%, and breakeven of $400.70 sits above the $398.70 52 week high. Rejected.

Put Candidates

None cleared every gate.

TFC passed trend, price below the 50 day, RSI 43.2, supertrend down. The Nov 20 $47.50 put failed liquidity. Open interest 680, volume 209, spread 15.4%. Rejected.

SCHW passed trend, price below the 50 day, RSI 31.7, supertrend down. The Nov 20 $92.50 put failed liquidity. Open interest 396, volume 5, spread 7.1%. Rejected.

Rejected, and why

APA failed the entry timing gate. It printed a new 52 week high two sessions ago. Chasing a name at its high is the exact mistake that gate exists to block.

AA gapped up 6.5% today on the earnings beat while still trading under a declining 50 day average. Not a clean call since the trend has not turned, and not a clean put either since buying into a 6.5% up day is chasing the wrong direction.

TSM sits under its 50 day despite yesterday’s beat, and the sector is weak today. Skipped, no confirmed new trend break to justify a fresh put.

PLTR, ABNB, GTLB, ZBRA cleared the technical breakout screen but carried no specific dated catalyst behind today’s move, held back given the runtime budget.

Three bank and broker earnings landed this morning and yesterday, and the tape rewarded TRV, punished TFC, and shrugged at SCHW, each cleanly trending in the direction its print justified. But every contract priced against those trends on the Nov 20 chain was too thin to trade, wide spreads, low open interest, low volume, the kind of friction that eats a short hold alive before the thesis gets a chance to work. Energy’s APA is extended right at a fresh high, and AA’s earnings pop is fighting a downtrend it has not yet broken. Today is a day to watch the reaction and wait for the chain to catch up, not force size into it. What would change the picture: APA cooling off into its rising 50 day without breaking it, or TRV’s option chain picking up real volume as more of the Street prices the beat.
